THE MUSIC MAN
“I want music incorporated into digital art to make sense. Music NFTs have not had their moment of glory yet, and I really hope they get one.”
White Lights creates perplexing digital art focused extensively on procedural generation and conceptual 3D visuals.
Music and art have always been fundamental to White Lights’ life. Enrolling in music school to study jazz, he soon found himself yearning for more, and it was only a matter of time before he was writing and producing his own music.
A change in direction soon saw him studying towards a computer science qualification and a job at the media giant, Refinery 29, from which he resigned in 2019 to focus on his music full-time.
When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and the music industry came to a standstill, White Lights contemplated what to do with all his accumulated visual assets. His interest in the NFT space was piqued shortly after that during a chance conversation with a close friend.
Not creating anything new for his genesis drop, he opted for a couple of his procedural pieces – coupled with original background music.
Although patience is a virtue, White Lights would not sit around and wait for the platform to cater to their needs. Instead, he first schooled himself on smart contracts before finding a proverbial home on Manifold.
His most notable pieces to date bear titles such as ‘a gift for you,’ ‘Worn,’ ‘DECEIVED,’ and ‘A Quantum Entanglement.’ White Lights is also an avid NFT collector and sports the work of several esteemed artists such as Guido_D, Dalton, and iamCFW.
Is there a future for music-focussed NFTs on the blockchain? White Lights hopes so: “I want music incorporated into digital art to make sense. Music NFTs have not had their moment of glory yet, and I really hope they get one.”
Formerly working as a computer scientist, Manhattan-based White Lights has accumulated great success across his entire discography. His love for music can only be matched by his other great passion: his love for art.
