STEVE

“What tipped me over the line to get that first buy was that it actually came with a physical video of the piece as well as the NFT.”

Coming from one of the biggest gambling nations in the world, Aussie Steve naturally went into the NFT world via online sports betting. Due to currency restrictions and betting legislation, his substantial winnings were payable only in Bitcoin, so since around 2013, Steve has ridden the cryptocurrency market, with a popular blog about his sports betting journey to his name, too.

During lockdown, with time to dive deep into crypto rabbit holes, Steve saw the popularity of NFTs growing and invested in a couple of pieces. Of his first purchase, he says: “What tipped me over the line to get that first buy was that it actually came with a physical video of the piece as well as the NFT.” That piece was a Beeple.

With a gambler’s conviction of inevitable success, by his own admission, Steve then went a little crazy, buying a number of pieces, including minting a Golden Ape, whose value he didn’t even truly appreciate at the time.

He extended his research and figured that since he had fallen in love with the whole crypto, web3, and NFT world, it was time to launch his own project. With around 10,000 ready-made followers from his blog, Steve combined everything he knew best, i.e., sports gambling and crypto, and created NFTeams with 10,000 teams competing on the blockchain.

Now, they’re building 3D players who will actually train and play in the sport they’re creating. Once the players sell out, the games can begin!

Steve says of the creative process: “We’ve got a few other mini-games all based on sports betting, more just to keep everybody entertained and engaged while we build out what we are really building. My goal is to have a decathlon of sports running at once.”

Imagine a sports stadium… maybe there’s a basketball game going on, as well as track events around the outside, maybe there’s archery in the middle – any number of sporting disciplines simultaneously.

A skilled sports bettor and NFT trader, Steve’s next conquest is the world of marketing, with the objective of onboarding more people. And we reckon it’s a safe bet he’ll be a winner at that, too.
