SONSO
“I want to foster a community that looks at art whether you own it or not and just appreciates the art in the same way one can appreciate a Van Gogh painting.”
My dream is that the NFT, as a vehicle, can be used to streamline all types of digital ownership, removing frictions that make our life difficult and stop people from pursuing their dreams.”
Sonso believes NFTs can streamline digital ownership, eliminate friction, and solve problems. As an avid collector since March 2021, Sonso has always had a passion for curating and discovering new artists. For him, the most fulfilling aspect of collecting art from the web3 space is the ability to see the creative process unfold. He expresses, “I love artists that post works in progress or sketches on Twitter. I just love to see the creativity as it arises. Artists like Helena Sarin, Zach Lieberman, and William Mapan all do a great job of this.”
Sonso’s approach to curating his incredible collection is evolving. He shares, “I have been just collecting what I like, but I have decided to do less buying and more curating of my existing collection. This space can often make you crazy jumping from the latest mint to the next; this year and going forward, I want to focus on mindful curation and purchases.”
When asked about his strategy as a collector of digital art NFTs, Sonso stresses the importance of having conviction in the artists you collect. “I think it is important to determine who are the artists that you have conviction in. I think folks get caught up in looking for the next thing, what looks pretty, and they don’t stop to think do I have conviction that this artist will be here in 10 years, does this artist have something interesting to say or a different perspective. I try my best to think about this before I collect an artist’s work.”
He is committed to uplifting artists and bringing traditional artists into the space. “One of the things that I really try to focus on is just sharing good work. I want to foster a community that looks at art whether you own it or not and just appreciates the art in the same way one can appreciate a Van Gogh painting.”
When it comes to the future of the digital art NFT scene, Sonso is optimistic and sees a bright future for the industry. “The digital art NFT scene will be much more mature in three years. Traditional institutions will take an ever-increasing interest in the space leading to further acceptance and celebration of the technology and artists.”
