Pierendrea is an Italian artist, architect, and art curator. He is the creator of Odyssey of The Heart, a deeply personal project that was born in 2020 during the pandemic.
“After years and years of experimenting with art, in every possible form, through painting with oil paint to photography to 3d visualization, photo manipulation, and digital painting, making art is like breathing for me,” says Pierendrea. “The Odyssey is the journey of research, of wandering without a direction; it’s the human path to ascension.”
Art truly is a life-line and a life-giver. “Ever since I was a boy, I’ve been deeply appreciative of the visual arts,” he shares. “Both my grandfathers had creative pursuits, and I inherited my talents from them – as well as their encouragement to express myself creatively. They both furnished me with a wealth of resources; they acted as if they were my mentors. For me, their absence highlighted my own desire to be heard.”
He studied architecture and urban design. The beauty of design flows through every facet of his life and being.
Art is also therapeutic for him. It’s a declaration of freedom from an abusive upbringing and the difficulties of coming to terms with his sexuality. He says: “Art has always been an expression of freedom for me, that freedom I couldn’t feel as I had to grow up in an extremely religious environment with the awareness of being gay.
Art was my response to the pain, to the suffering of all those years when I felt like I didn’t have a voice, I felt like I was inside an emotional prison.”
Art has empowered and enabled this talented human and given him a community of like-minded and appreciative people. Joining the NFT space in March 2021 was the moment it all came together for him: “A fellow artist had invited me to join a Discord server full of other artists from around the world. There, I met a fantastic community of people who were instrumental in getting me started on this thrilling adventure.”
Odyssey Of The Heart is the “physical representation of themes that are generally psychological – and become a method of building ethereal human environments, outside of this world, in a system of symbolisms and suggestions,” he explains. “The main idea of my art is that we are all living a journey, the journey of life; we are all lost, wandering around looking for something just as one an odyssey. It’s an odyssey of the heart, because when you open your heart to everything that surrounds you, you will be able to understand and accept all kinds of emotions.”
