An intrepid photographer, collector, and curator, Truff has come a long way since his days as an investment banker and entrepreneur.
Italian by birth, Truff originally relocated to London to pursue a career in finance. After spending more than 10 years in the industry, he founded his own tech startup, and it was only 6 years later, when he left his business, he began to explore the blockchain’s vast potential. Although he had been aware of crypto since 2017, he didn’t fall down the rabbit hole until much later, when he entered the NFT space early in 2021.
With regards to art, Truff told us he always felt intimidated by the traditional art world. He shares: “It was only thanks to NFTs that I approached the art space, became more confident in collecting artworks, and over time built a collection of thousands of digital art pieces (as NFTs).”
Not only that, this new love for art and the creative process led him to rekindle an old passion of his: photography. Truff is now an acclaimed photographer, exhibiting his work internationally and selling it on SuperRare.
Does he follow a specific process when acquiring art? Truff shares: “I think every time you buy a piece, the decision lies on a spectrum. On one end, you have the entire financial investment decisions (i.e. you buy a piece because you expect it to increase in value). On the opposite end lie the purchases of pieces you just fell in love with (your “forever” pieces that you will never sell). I feel I’m certainly more intentional than other collectors when buying art and focus also on the investment element of my collection.”
Despite more artists and collectors joining the NFT space, there is still much room for growth. Truff identifies as a significant hurdle for mass adoption the very steep learning curve of crypto, how to use wallets, execute a transaction, and keep your asset safe. In his opinion, the space will only really scale when buying an NFT will be as easy as sending an email.
