MaxwellX.eth is fast becoming a household name in esteemed NFT circles. He was already well-versed in crypto when he entered the NFT space in 2020 thanks to the inspiration provided by Anthony Pompliano’s podcast.
It is no secret that collecting NFTs is an exhilarating experience. After spending time on Nifty Gateway and scooping up his first NFTs, Maxwell was hooked. It wasn’t all child’s play, and he had to navigate his way around a limited NFT supply and a mammoth time difference.
Growing up, Maxwell was an avid collector of basketball cards and comics. He elaborates: “When it came to digital collectibles, art NFTs just felt like a natural fit. It is also fun, right? Understanding traits, going down rabbit holes, and connecting with people – I just love that.”
Experiencing a newfound appreciation for generative art, Maxwell acquired his first CryptoPunk in March 2021 – a month before rapper Jay-Z paid 55 ETH ($127,717) for Punk #6095.
CryptoPunks are about more than a collection of cards. It’s a culture, a movement. It has connected people, and communities were built on the back of it. The communities sport fundamentally solid values and continue to open doors for artists and collectors that otherwise may remain closed.
How can a collection’s longevity be secured? Maxwell says: “It’s all about attention and whether or not a collection can maintain it long term. What that really boils down to is the underlying mission of the community. Join communities that have strong values and a mission besides money… If the mission is purely money-based, then they are going to leave just as fast as they joined when the money dries up.”
Wholly devoted to CryptoPunks, its community, and culture, Maxwell strives to keep the OG punk culture alive by gauging the vibe within the community and building on it with his podcast PunkCast.xyz. A podcast dedicated to celebrating the Punks behind the Punk.
Prior to dabbling in NFTs, Maxwell worked in finance, strategy & operational leadership roles. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, and his career experience spans global consulting firms and leading global MNCs where he was also the guy to help companies lead and navigate teams through their change & digital programs.
