KING OF GLITCH ART
“The medium is of little importance; what matters most is the message you convey via your work and that your voice is being expressed and heard.”
King Xerox rules over the demons and degens of web3. It wasn’t always that way. “I’m a drawing junkie; I’ve been drawing since the age of 4,” shares King Xerox. “I was told that I would never be able to make art my career, but I never gave up drawing.”
His dream? To become a comic book illustrator. Unfortunately, that dream wasn’t possible for our future king at the time. It wasn’t to be for lack of effort or talent: three decades ago, a career as an artist was far beyond the realms of most.
“I studied architecture; I figured that was the closest I could come to living my life as an artist.” It was a career and path that wasn’t meant for King Xerox. After five frustrating years – albeit successful – he felt creatively unfulfilled. In an attempt to rekindle his passion and creative fire, he turned to his first love: comics.
It wasn’t long until the universe lined up an irresistible offer. He recalls: “I met a few guys online and found work creating comics for Spanish and American publishing houses. I quit my day job and jumped in.”
The path to greatness as a king is littered with the dead bodies of valiant princes. “Making comics required me to write the story, draw, ink, color, and finish on time, which was a lot of work.” 15 years later, in 2021, he was completely and utterly exhausted. Someone told him about web3 and NFTs, suggesting that he give it a try: “I had never heard of Web3 or crypto before that.”
Ever since that conversation in 2021, he’s been a full degen. King Xerox immersed himself in the Tezos culture and community, and rekindled his love for artmaking – and rose to the throne of all the demons and degens of web3.
“It was so much fun that I just kept making things,” he says of his switch from the comic book industry to the NFT world. “The freedom to do as I pleased without worrying about looming deadlines was quite appealing. Since there are no editors, there are no guidelines. I felt a great deal of independence from that point on.” That’s the beauty of web3.
King Xerox has a wealth of experience and wisdom regarding art and web3. “The medium is of little importance; what matters most is the message you convey via your work and that your voice is being expressed and heard.”
