DaBirds23, a passionate NFT collector and curator, has a mission to uplift and support artists in web3. They initially joined with an investment/curiosity approach but fell in love with the space and its communities.
“I had dabbled in NFTs, but really it was collecting Des Lucrece’s ‘Monster Cake’ and joining Monsters Discord that allowed me to find out what this ‘community’ is all about. That is why the first thing I put on my profile was ‘New Friend Technology,’ as friends and relationships are really what the space is all about. This led me to create ‘Alphadoggg’ with my best friend Mondoggg (who I met through Monsters), making a project as collectors we always wanted but didn’t exist.”
Having been a collector of sports cards, action figures, comic books, and video games as a child, DaBirds23 has always had an eye for recognizing patterns and trends. Their trading background helped them understand the NFT space, which they see as equal parts art and market.
“The best strategy is to find art you love and hold it,” DaBirds23 describes his overarching collecting strategy. “Use things like PFPs to generate liquidity to buy more great art. Once I find a talented artist, I try to support them with whatever platform I have. “It’s like an ocean of artists all trying to do the same thing. Apart from building close friendships, one of the most fulfilling parts of collecting art from artists in the web3 space for DaBirds23 is finding talented artists early on, supporting them, and watching the space recognize their talent. “One good uplifting story is finding an artist like my good friend, CoupofGrace, an extremely talented traditional and crypto artist,” shares DaBirds23. “I was buying his work for 3 Tezos, then continuing to support through his journey and watching his talent be recognized was a cherished memory. He grew from selling art for 3 Tezos to being on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. These are the types of things that make the space special.”
