FREEDOM OF DISCOVERY – FREEDOM FROM STRUGGLE

“Brittany realized that NFTs are a way for un- and underserved people to generate wealth. She onboarded 60 black women, who have gone on to sell their art and create revenue streams.”

Brittany Pierre is a self-taught filmmaker and photographer based in Chicago, IL. Her passion is to tell stories that elevate the beauty and experience of Black people in America. Her love of photography began at a young age when she and her grandfather took pictures of his farm with his old film camera.

In 2020 Brittany noticed photographer and creator, Elise Swopes, on Twitter, who had just made her first NFT sale for $17,000. Elise continues to help Brittany navigate the new space, and has remained a supporter. “Honestly, I’m only here because of Elise Swopes.”

Artist and creator Diana Sinclair helped Brittany with her first minting fee, and the work sold within a week. Zak Krevitt invited Brittany onto Foundation, where collectors continue to snap up her work.

Brittany realized that NFTs are a way for un- and underserved people to generate wealth. She has onboarded over 60 Black women, who have gone on to sell their art and create revenue streams. Brittany began helping other artists in the space after seeing a gap in support for Black and POC creatives “to help others, not just vocally, but monetarily, which I’ve never been able to do. “I put out a tweet saying, ‘Hey, I want to send five Black/queer artists to Art Basil. I need $5,000.’ Within 24 hours, I had the donation. Five artists went and out of those, two also got speaking engagements, which made them extra money. It’s the butterfly effect.”

“So web3 and NFTs have brought the freedom of discovery, and freedom from worrying where your next meal is coming from.” Brittany’s story from “15 bucks an hour at a real job” to her success in NFTs was featured on CNBC.

Brittany wants her collectors to know that she’s “here for change” and that she wants them to be part of her next big creative steps. At the same time, she reaches out to new creators coming into the space to make sure that they have the knowledge that they need. “I want other people who look like me to have these opportunities, too.”
