A VISION FOR CREATIVE FREEDOM
“It would be counterintuitive for me to put limitations on myself when I do not yet know what I am capable of.”
An age-old adage reads that a picture is worth a thousand words. At just 19 years of age, Ben Skaar’s immersive artwork is worth that and a million more.
Ben discovered his passion for photography as a young teen with a point-and-shoot camera and has been capturing the vivid beauty of our planet ever since. His talent has earned him several accolades, including being named the 2020 Youth Travel Photographer of the Year.
Entering the Web3 space was a natural transgression for Ben, who previously showcased his artwork on Instagram and TikTok. He first learned about NFTs on Clubhouse in January 2021, and while his stay on the platform was fleeting (due to an age policy), his curiosity remained incessant.
Understanding the eminence of the blockchain despite his rookie status, Ben wanted his genesis drop to be something he could really be proud of- and that it was. His first piece in his revered ‘ASTROnomical’ series depicted an almost surreal scene of the Milky Way over the Rhode Island coast and took a month to sell.
Pushing yourself beyond the borders of your bubble is important to Ben. He says: “I’m always trying new things while still being intentional about it. “It would be counterintuitive for me to put limitations on myself when I do not yet know what I am capable of.”
Now living in the Big Apple and attending NYU, Ben is keen to make an even more significant impact with his art in 2023. Big-city living will undoubtedly result in a series of stellar urban pieces that will be in stark contrast to some of his earlier work.
He continues: “I will always stay true to my own vision when creating; working on what I like and releasing it how I want to release it. The long-term vision is everything.”
