“I just didn’t think I could sell photos as NFTs. Then over the next couple of months, I started to see a lot of people in the photo community gravitate towards the NFT space, and it caught my eye. By mid-2022, I was a full-time NFT artist.”
Born and raised on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts, creativity has been part of every step of Austin Visual’s life. Describing skateboarding as his ‘first love,’ it would be this romance that kickflipped him into becoming a world-renowned photographer. However, he discovered it the hard way. Austin would film, edit and produce home-made skateboarding movies, but it wasn’t until a serious injury in college led him to pivot his creative talents to something new: photography.
From there, it wasn’t long before he found a new devotion: “I fell in love with the process of learning how to photograph anything.” AV became mesmerized by landscapes and testing the camera’s technical limits. “I found it absolutely baffling that you could take a picture of something in the pitch black,” he says.
Diving into the unknown blackness is nothing new or scary for Austin Visual. He never planned on diving into NFTs. But, he dove into that rabbit hole and it has consumed him ever since. He shares: “I just didn’t think I could sell photos as NFTs. Austin Visual’s rise in the NFT space has been extraordinary and fascinating to witness. Of course, with his talent behind the camera, and his community-first approach, his collections on OpenSea cast him into the NFT limelight. Eerie, yet beautiful, AV’s photos aim to elicit emotions through a healthy dose of earthy tones. How does he achieve that effect? “I like using green overcasts that’s different from reality.”
Having been accepted into SuperRare, AV has set the foundation for his NFT photography career. Now it’s about the future, which looks bright by the way. “My ongoing primary project is ‘Sleeping Suburbia,’ which is a huge selection of images I’ve photographed in a variety of suburban communities. I’m trying to build out this NFT project to around a hundred pieces. This project’s been ongoing for years. I’m thinking of doing a monograph 10 years from now or something; it’ll be massive.”
