WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD
Angelica Ramirez has been blazing a trail for women in the photography and NFT space since she was first introduced to it by friends in 2021. A super sceptic at first, Angelica soon realized its potential as a market for her work and sold her very first piece within hours after Tweeting about it. A super sceptic at first, Angelica soon realized its potential as a market for her work and sold her very first piece to BT after a tweet of her photos landed on his timeline.
Angelica quickly saw how web3 was able to do some of the heavy lifting when it comes to marketing and visibility, taking some of the hustle out of getting pieces out there. She finally acknowledged that she could make it selling her art as NFTs after announcing her early success in the bar where she was working at the time.
“Even though the guys in the bar didn’t understand what I was doing, they celebrated with me, and that’s when I felt I could really be an artist full time doing exactly what I want.”
Angelica works both solo and in collaboration with other artists, which is another way of getting more eyes on her work.
“It’s a good way to build a new community. You put yourself in front of the collectors of whoever you’re working with and vice versa – they put themselves in front of your collectors.”
But it’s promoting the work of women on Web3 and in the NFT space that Angelica feels most passionate about.
“There’s a huge gender gap, including in fintech, cyber security and the broader STEAM subjects, unfortunately. I think the issue lies with men being willing to have conversations with women about what NFTs are – most women don’t even know. But ultimately it’s the job of both men and women to try to drive people from both genders to the space.”
In the meantime, Angelica is owning her space, as a woman, a photographer and as an NFT artist.
